Having a high-stack shoe for long miles is great but leans toward being a one-trick pony. Having a versatile shoe in the quiver is a game changer. Dynafit's Alpine Pro 2 is at home on techie trails and desert rock and great for speed workouts. It also excels at scrambling with the Megagrip outsole's fantastic traction. Compared with the Dynafit Alpine, the "Pro 2" variation offers better protection than its elder kin, thanks to the added rock plate under the forefoot. A full-length stability plate boosts confidence on uneven trails littered with rocks and roots. With more cushion, medium fit, and moderate (6mm) drop, the Alpine Pro 2 is a people pleaser that will leave many runners uninhibited from the valley floor to the alpine.

SkyRun Fit Tip - We recommend sizing up one-half to one whole US size for the best fit.

  • Rock Plate protects your feet from all the pesky pointy bits conveniently placed on most trails.
  • Stability Plate improves torsional rigidity, alleviating the risks of rolling an ankle.
  • Vibram Megagrip - Don't leave home without it.
  • Toe cap keeps your toes from feeling woes when you kick rocks and roots.
  • Keeping things efficient is quick-to-adjust speed laces.

Question from Grant

I am looking for a shoe to take on the longest events at Broken Arrow and the Rut; so many miles in technical terrain. Do you think this shoe or the Scarpa Ribelle Run 2 would be a good choice and is one better than the other for this use? I love that they both have quicklaces and seem designed for the alpine. Thank you!

Answer from Josh O

Hi Grant,

Having run both of those events myself, and in 1 of the pairs of shoes you are looking at. The Ribelle is a very nice shoe with excellent protection, but for an event greater than 30k, you will probably find yourself wanting something with a little more cushion. I have not used the Alpine pro 2 but I have heard that it runs pretty nicely. For a longer day, I would probably take the Dynafit over the Scarpa. Feel free to email us at help@skimo.co to chat a little more in depth about some options for your upcoming events!
