norda 001 Shoe

What do you do when you don't see the quality of shoes you'd like on the market? You gather a couple of like-minded Canadians and a few top-of-the-line materials to make the most durable shoe possible. At least, that's what the folks at norda did with their 001. They began with a well-protected seamless Dyneema upper, woven in Italy and known for its bulletproof durability, so, no need to worry about all the sharp things. There is a full-coverage Vibram outsole because "windows" to the brand-new Vibram midsole would undoubtedly shorten the life of this comfortable yet supportive commodity. Throw some laces in, and they are done, right? Fortunately not, because what's left is where the details begin. Strategically placed over the midsole and the memory foam-infused Ortholite insole are single sheets of Dyneema, guaranteeing they're around for the shoe's life. The tongue is gusseted and has full coverage over the top of the foot, ensuring it stays put, but it inadvertently has a cozy sock-like feel. There's more, but some things are better for the user to discover. Is this the one shoe to rule them all? No, as protective as Dyneema is, the fires of Mt Doom are sure to incinerate the shoes. Did norda think of everything with the 001? Probably not, but they're off to a good start, with 999 opportunities to improve.
