Mount to Coast T1 Shoe
Mount to Coast made a big splash on the road running scene with their record-shattering, podium-bagging R1, and they are bringing that same groundbreaking performance to trail running with their T1 shoe. Designed for the most demanding of athletes, the T1 overlooks no feature. Starting at the bottom, the outsole is composed of Vibram's Megagrip + Litebase, widely regarded as the gold standard for optimized traction, durability, and weight. However, the gold standard isn't good enough for Mount to Coast, so they employed Traction Lug microfeatures to push the outsole's grip as far as possible. The LightCELL midsole made from supercritical PEBA is 50% lighter than traditional EVA midsoles while offering 45% better energy return, giving you the propulsion and cushion to conquer any distance. Kevlar fibers are woven into the upper to improve durability, preventing upper blow-out and helping the shoe last for hundreds of miles. Even the laces weren't able to escape Mount to Coast's innovation. Each shoe has two speed-style laces, allowing you to dial in the tension separately for the midfoot and forefoot. Ultrarunners looking for a shoe built to run as hard, fast, and far as you do, the Mount to Coast T1 was built to check all your boxes.

Questions & Reviews
I sized up half a size because of the rec from the Skyrun site (also they didn't have my actual size in stock), and the shoe ended up being slightly too big. I would recommend going with your actual size.
The pros:
- The outsole is VERY good. It is probably the grippiest outsole I've ever ran in and feels comparable to the LS Mutant when running on steep, loose terrain.
- The midsole feels absolutely perfect, in my opinion. It strikes a perfect balance between firm and cush. There is still some ground feel, but I haven't had any foot pain from stepping on sharp rocks.
- The shoe feels very lightweight and breathable.
- The geometry of the shoe feels great. The rocker feels perfect to me. The 4mm drop is right in the sweet spot of what I like.
- The forefoot is roomy and fits my mid-wide feet.
The cons:
- The upper/lacing system creates a fit that I just can't get perfect. I can look past this because the midsole and outsole are so great, but the second iteration of this shoe has a lot of room for improvement here. I swapped out the upper speed laces for the regular laces and this helped a bit, but I think the addition of another eyelet as well as beefing up the tongue so that you can tie the shoe tighter without creating a pressure point would greatly improve this shoe. I just can't get my ankle to feel 100% locked in on steep downhill.
- Due to the fit not feeling perfect, I get less confidence on super techy downhill than I would in something like the La Sportiva Prodigio Pro which locks the ankle down and fits like a glove. I haven't yet taken any spills though, so they're still good enough.
Overall I would recommend this shoe for races that tend to have more running and gradual vertical gain/descent than I would for something like the Speedgoat 50K. Once they figure out the upper, this shoe will be a perfect race shoe.
My only complaint, and it's a large one, is that the upper is so solid and waterproof that the shoes get absolutely bogged down with sweat. I run early mornings in the South and without fail, after 3 miles at 75 degrees, my socks are soaked, the water isn't going anywhere, and I will be both clomping and slipping through the last 2 miles of my run. This also means that I've washed this shoe 4 times, more than any other pair in history, and my shoes are always under a fan for 6 hours after the run so I can use them tomorrow.
This is a pain, but still not annoying enough to stop running in these daily, fwiw.
