I asked Black Diamond about this and their response was that the only difference between this year and last year's Distance packs is the fit of the bungees on the vest. Otherwise they are just the same as last year.

3 month, 175 mile update: Still loving this shoe. It's the only pair I reach for lately and even after using them 5 times a week, I haven't felt any weakening in responsiveness or dampening of energy return, and the tread pattern still looks brand new. My only complaint, and it's a large one, is that the upper is so solid and waterproof that the shoes get absolutely bogged down with sweat.
