Salewa Wildfire NXT Shoe
Salewa's Wildfire NXT is the latest iteration of a technical approach shoe designed for steep and rugged alpine environments. A moderately stiff sole with a steeper 10mm drop and sticky Megagrip rubber was born for scrambling and calf-burning climbs. When the route kicks into vertical territory, the outsole holds its own, with a smearing edge on the toe so you can get spicy. The Wildfire NXT borrows its Matryx upper from high-end running shoes - Matryx has quickly become recognized as one of the best upper materials in the trail running world for its durability, low stretch, and breathability. Kevlar fibers are woven into the mesh to resist abrasion, keeping your foot locked down while moisture escapes freely through the material. The Matryx also cuts weight, making the Wildfire NXT reasonably light for such a protective, technical shoe. A rubber rand adds protection when hiking through scree and can't avoid kicking rocks. Finally, once you're tired from being out all day and want to get to the car, the cushioned midsole has enough give to permit some running on your way out to the trailhead.
