The Alpi 40L wears like a running vest, sitting above the hips to keep the weight of the contents closer to your mid-back and offering better hip mobility than traditional backpacks, allowing you to move fast without resistance. This also gives space to strap a sleeping pad or other large object to the bottom of the pack. Speaking of strapping things to the pack, this bag has attachments for dual ice axe carry, dual upfront pole carry, A-frame ski carry, quick ski carry, snowboard/snowshoe carry, and double daisy chains running down the back so that the only limit to what the pack can carry is your imagination.

The primary storage is divided into two pockets for better gear organization: a 28-liter main compartment with zipper access on the back face and a 12-liter roll-top pocket perfect for compressible items such as layers and puffys. By bisecting the primary storage into two parts, Instinct has removed the need to dig through all of your gear to retrieve something from the bottom of the pack and makes it easier to keep your bag organized as you take objects in and out. On top of the pack is a removable brain that adds another nearly 3L of storage - including an exterior stretch mesh pouch for fast access to small items - and doubles as a helmet carry. Side compression straps can be tightened when carrying smaller loads.

Moving to the front of the pack, the vest-like shoulder straps boast a bouquet of zip, stretch, and flask pockets to keep your tasty treats and knickity knacks easy to grab. Three adjustable sternum straps slide up and down on rails, allowing you to set them up for maximal comfort and stability. Further stability is achieved thanks to the elastic cord joining the bottom of the shoulder straps to the pack's body. This elastic lacing system, backed by static nylon straps, delivers a snug, secure fit that won't constrict your breathing. Load lifters on the shoulders can be adjusted to ensure comfortable carrying, regardless of cargo.
