Not every run or fastpacking mission features perfectly dry dirt, especially if you’re itching to get up high in the alpine during springtime. So if it’s snow that’s got you worried, Petzl has you covered with their lightweight and compact Leopard Flexlock. The universal attachment system easily fits hiking, running, and approach shoes so that you don’t have to compromise your favorite footwear. And unlike other running traction devices, the Leopard Flexlock offers up 10 legit, mountaineering points so grip on steep, firm snow is not a concern. And while there are a plethora of crampons available on the market, we’ve chosen the Leopard Flexlock for SkyRun because it plays nicely with small running packs. The Cord Tech replaces traditional bulky linking bars making it uniquely compact and lightweight. When snow and ice are en route and you’re unwilling to back down, throw the Petzl Leopard Flexlock crampons in your pack and get the traction you need.

  • 10-point design gives you confidence for glacier and snow travel.
  • Cord Tech design makes for tool-free adjustment.
  • Universal Flexlock bail attachment works for all footwear.
  • Comes with a protective carry bag so you don’t poke holes in everything.

Ben (used product regularly)

I give these 5 stars because they are the only truly lightweight crampon that can attach to a running shoe. However, it takes a fair amount of practice and attention to attach these properly to a running shoe, especially if your preferred shoe has a more flexible sole. When I want crampons with running shoes and I am not counting every gram, I prefer to use Kathoola KTS crampons which have a much faster, more secure attachment system and a metal linkage bar that adds a lot of stability. The downside to the Kathoola is they weigh almost twice as much as the Petzl. I still have my Leopards for days when I am extremely concerned about weight, but they rarely get used. I still give 5 stars because there is nothing else in the weight category that comes close. The Petzls work best with a stiffer shoe like the La Sportiva Ultra Raptor or an approach shoe.
