HOKA Mafate X Shoe
For years, trail runners have been at the little kid's table drooling over road runners' platter of carbon-plated shoes. With a handful of options becoming available for those carbon-hungry vert seekers over recent years, the pickings improve with the Mafate X from HOKA. Using a fusion of their latest technology, the Mafate X finds a middle ground between super shoes and daily drivers and remains comfortable whether on your favorite loop or race day. The midsole features an upper layer of PEBA foam that delivers step-in comfort and a lower layer of supercritical EVA to offer more durability. This shoe's secret weapon, HOKA's (somewhat X-shaped) forked carbon fiber plate, is sandwiched between these two layers, which gives you another speed boost. The high-performance midsole is complimented by Vibram's Megagrip rubber and 3.5mm lugs, providing excellent traction without compromising speed. The upper is a lightweight textile that breathes and drains well when it gets hot or you get your feet wet. Give your next 100-mile attempt a try in the Mafate X.
