Hi Jay, Thanks for reaching out. 125cm is not only good; it should be great!

I’m used to using adjustable length poles from BC skiing. I have a set of adjustable length aluminum shaft Z poles, I think Salomon brand, and one of them snapped when I was using it for support while hiking down a rain swollen Hawaiian creek, so I’m in the market for replacement poles. I guess these Dynafit poles are fixed length, and I don’t see a guide for length selection so I’m wondering what the recommended length would be for me. I’m 5’-8-1/2” tall and weigh about 145 lbs.

Hi Mark, a collapsable pole is a game changer, but some certainly like the fixed length or telescoping. Either way, at your height, the 120cm length would be ideal.

I have several thousand miles on the Black Diamond Carbon Z poles, and I am on my third pair over the course of 6 years. The two pairs that broke failed in the same way, the aluminum sleeve that attaches the carbon segments becomes unglued from the carbon pole. I have heard that you can reglue the sleeve back in place but I chose to go the warranty route. My current pair has held up for over three years, perhaps they have improved the glue. Still, I give only 4 stars because even if you can reglue the aluminum sleeve back in place, it is annoying to run or hike back to the car carrying a broken pole.
